A beheaded body of unidentified man has been discovered and retrieved from river Nyamindi in Mbiri village, Njuki-ini ward of Kirinyaga County.

Confirming the incident, Gîchûgû sub County police Commander Antony Mbogo said that the body may have been in the river for the past two months

Mbogo also confirmed the body had been moved to Kerugoya level four hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

"From our preliminary investigations, we can establish the body has been in the water for at least two months," Mbogo said in an interview with K24 Digital.

It is however still unclear if the man had been killed elsewhere and then dumped into Nyamindi river.

"Detectives have since launched Investigations to establish the truth on where the murder might have occurred," he said.

The decomposing body was discovered by locals who later notified the police who responded swiftly and the retrieval of the body commenced immediately.

"We saw the body floating, and we alerted the police," Kimothi Munyi, a resident, said.

The police boss has therefore called on families who might have a lost kin to help confirm if the body found belongs to a relative.

He noted that two people have been reported missing from Njuki-ini ward in the recent past, and they are yet to be found.

"Two people, one is an old man, have been reported missing in this area. We have contacted the affected families, but they said that the body does not belong to their kin," he said.
