A middle-aged man hacked his wife to death and later took his life at Kobos village in Trans Nzoia County following a domestic row that is believed to have stemmed from her intention to travel to Canada in search of greener pastures.

Emmanuel Kiprop is said to have hacked Elizabeth Nyongesa with a kitchen knife on Monday after the two were embroiled in a long dispute with the husband interpreting the planned travel as termination of their marriage.

After killing his wife, Kiprop also took his life by drowning in a nearby borehole in an incident that saw curious villagers troop to the homestead in disbelief since the two had no history of quarreling.

Elizabeth’s family is however reading malice in the incident saying they have been kept off from viewing the body of their daughter yet their in-laws have already processed burial permits to facilitate the burial of the two.

“We are not convinced with the information our in-laws have given us in relation to our daughter’s death. We believe there is something they are hiding,” said Mr. John Barasa, the father.

Her mother, Ruth Barasa is yet to come to terms with her daughter’s death since she had just left their homestead last week at Lessos estate on the outskirts of Kitale town where she sought medical attention.

“My son-in-law pressured me to let him take her back home though she had not fully recovered. He promised to take her to hospital only to learn later that he killed her,” said the distressed mother.

Kemboi’s family is however disputing foul play saying their son might have resorted to the heinous act owing to his drug addiction habit which makes him resort to violence whenever he is stressed.

“We have nothing to hide since the incident has equally shocked us. Our brother who has the answers to all the queries that are being raised is also dead hence this remains a mystery,” said Mr. Asbel Kemboi, brother to the husband.

Elizabeth’s family is however determined to get to the bottom of the matter through police investigations and is also demanding that their daughter’s customary rites are met before she can be laid to rest.

This comes with two people a husband and wife are nursing injuries after being hacked by people known to them over land disputes.

The two Phanuel Kimtois and his wife were attacked by a group of three people who wanted to evict them from their land in Kwanza sub-county.

They are currently recuperating at Kitale county hospital.
