A traffic police officer attached to Langata police station saved Zachary Kingori, a police officer attached to the Ministry of Foreign affairs and his passenger from mob justice by bodaboda operators after he knocked down two pedestrians around Sunshine School on Langata road in the evening of Thursday, August 5.

According to officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the police officer who saved King'ori, was on duty along Langata road when she noticed a speeding vehicle on the wrong lane of the road.

“It was reported by duty officer Langata IP Flora Mwongeli that she was on patrol along Langata road specifically at Carnivore junction at  around 1700hrs when she noticed a vehicle speeding along the wrong side of the road heading towards Karen followed closely by dozens of motorcycles,” DCI said in a statement.

On noticing that something was amiss, the officer sped off in the police patrol vehicle following the car from behind and on reaching Langata barracks area, she found the motor vehicle already cornered and the driver being subjected to a beating.

The officer intervened and saved the driver and a lady passenger from the angry mob but the driver had already suffered minor bruises on the lips and arms.

“She then escorted the two to the station where the driver was identified as Mr Zackary King'ori Mwangi S/AIG currently attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the DCI report seen by K24 Digital said in part.

It was then established that the officer was using the wrong side of the road due to traffic jam between Sunshine school and Carnivore junction when he knocked down two pedestrians who were crossing the road.

The pedestrians suffered multiple injuries and they were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital in serious condition by a good samaritan.

His vehicle registration No. KBU 754M was damaged on the front bumper due to the accident but the left side windscreens were smashed by the cyclists.

“At the station the officer recorded in the OB that the driver was involved in an accident and was leaving for Karen hospital to pick a person in distress,” the report by DCI further said.

He left with his motor vehicle and the lady passenger who was not injured.
