Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko's lawyer Derrick Odhiambo was on Tuesday, June 14, attacked by unknown assailants.

Odhiambo who appeared before Mombasa High Court judge John Mativo for the hearing of Sonko's ex- parte application seeking for orders to quash IEBC's decision not to clear Sonko to vie for Mombasa governor's seat informed the court that Sonko's lawyers were living in fear following the attack.

Odhiambo went on to narrate the incident on the day he was attacked in the matter that has since been reported at Nyali police station.

He informed the court that on the material day, a vehicle had obstructed him on his way towards Nyali at around 6:30 pm in the evening and that he was beaten by two men before he was rescued by General Service Unit (GSU) officers

"A car had been trailing me and as l headed towards Nyali, two people who were in the car with one donning military uniform attacked me and warned me to stay away from Mombasa politics and Sonko's case and that Mombasa has its owners," he told Justice Mativo.

"We are not safe. We urge you to dispense this matter as soon as possible. Our lives are in danger. We plead with you to hear this matter once and for all," he said.

Odhiambo further pleaded with the court to allow him to walk into the judge's courtroom for fear that his computer would fail to work as witnessed on Tuesday's hearing of the matter where he pointed out that all the counsels' computers and laptops failed to log in for the hearing of Sonko's matter

On his part, Justice Mativo expressed apathy to the lawyer and informed him that his court would not entertain any threats on the matter before him.

"All will be well. No threats will be entertained," he said.
