The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a cautionary advisory to motorists plying the busy Athi River-Machakos Road.

In a notice on Friday, April 26, 2024, KeNHA instructed motorists to exercise caution when approaching Green Park estate on the Athi River-Machakos Road.

The road agency said the embankment slopes had eroded, posing risks to the service road.

KeNHA however stated that the main carriageway was safe for use by motorists and remains open.

"KeNHA advises motorists plying the Athi River - Machakos Road near Green Park estate to exercise caution. The embankment slopes have eroded, posing risks to the service road.

"The main carriageway remains open, however, due to the tenuous conditions, please refrain from using the service road. Motorists are advised to prioritize safety when using the main carriageway and to proceed with caution," KeNHA said.

Konza Area

On Thursday, KeNHA issued a similar cautionary advisory to motorists travelling through the Konza Area.

In their statement, the road authority asked motorists using the route to exercise patience and caution due to ongoing construction works causing traffic delays.

While reiterating the urgency for caution when traversing the route, KeNHA asked motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and assured them that the road would have a smoother traffic flow by the weekend.

"KeNHA advises motorists travelling through the Konza Area to exercise patience and caution due to ongoing construction works causing traffic delays. The Authority understands the inconvenience and assures you that efforts are being made to expedite the process.

"Please drive carefully and follow all traffic regulations. We anticipate smoother traffic flow by the weekend. Thank you for your cooperation," KeNHA said.

Floods

The ongoing rains have rendered many roads impassable, especially in the Athi River area.

Athi River recently burst its banks following heavy rains, causing heavy flooding in the surrounding areas.

The Kenya Meteorological Department warned Kenyans to expect more rainfall in the coming days.

In an advisory shared on Thursday, April 25, 2024, the weatherman said the ongoing rains will persist across different parts of the country including the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi area, Southeast lowlands the northern and the coast.

The met department also noted that the rains will persist from Friday, April 26 to Saturday, April 27, and are likely to be accompanied by gusty winds.
