Detectives have burst a drug trafficking syndicate involving senior police officers based in Eldoret and his juniors.

On Saturday evening, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers raided a rented house and recovered 7kg of heroin and 15kg of bhang believed to be from Ethiopia.

Brian Taabu Owuor, 26, and Cecilia Kefa, 22, were arrested and it was established that the male suspect had been receiving the parcels from Nairobi through Easy Coach bus service and the North Rift shuttle.

Detectives recovered two sacks with 15kg of Cannabis Sativa, 53 sachets of heroin, two national ID cards, 74 rolls of bhang, and two mobile phones among other items.

"An analysis of the suspects phone indicate that he had been sending money via Mpesa to some senior police officers based in Eldoret,” a police report reads in part.

Two suspects identified as Amina and Mike Okemi, both based in Nairobi, have been sending the drugs disguised as parcels to the drug dealers in Eldoret who in turn pay the officers for protection.

Investigations further revealed that once the drugs were delivered to Eldoret, some were then taken to Lolwe estate in Kisumu, with the full knowledge of some of rogue officers in Kisumu.
