Gov't releases Ksh2B Inua Jamii funds

The government has released Ksh2,095,360,000 for the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Program and another Ksh6,118,000 for those enrolled in the Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE), programme. 

In a press statement on Friday, December 1, 2023, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection said payment will commence on Monday, December 4 to beneficiaries currently on payroll.

"The funds were credited to the accounts of 1,044,621 Inua Jamii beneficiaries, with each receiving Ksh2,000 for November," part of the statement reads.

Since its inception in 2015 by President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Inua Jamii program has been targeting orphans and vulnerable children; older persons, and persons with severe disabilities.

The program was adopted by the current regime in July 2023 after a directive by President William Ruto.

Notably, a section of beneficiaries appealed to the government to channel the funds via mobile phones for safety purposes however, the concerns are yet to be addressed.
