Kitumbei village in Kituro, Baringo county is mourning the death of a 70-year-old man who was found dead days after receiving his Ksh8,000 inua jamii stipend.

Confirming the incident, Ruth Kipsang, the local area chief noted that the body of Cherutich Cherono was found lying beside his bed with blood oozing from his ears. She said that his body was first discovered by a relative who had visited his house.

“I was informed of the sad news by a neighbour and immediately reported the matter to the police officers who came through and helped with the situation. I urge the residents to cooperate with the authorities and help search for the suspect, “the relative stated.

The administrator noted that the deceased may have been hit by a blunt object due to the blood oozing from his ears. She also stated that the senior citizen was easily a target since he had no family members living nearby.

Following the incident, the chief urged the local residents to volunteer any information that may help police in arresting the suspect who may have had a hand in the death of Cherono.

Toroitich Chebon a neighbour to the deceased decried the worrying state of affairs noting that similar cases have been reported but little has been done to nab the culprits. He claimed that the gruesome murders witnessed were fueled by the frequent consumption of illicit brews.

Chebon further called on authorities to fast-track the arrest of suspects to put an end to the menace witnessed in the area.

Police who visited the scene moved the body of the deceased to Baringo Referral mortuary pending an autopsy to help conclude investigations.
