SportPesa Shield Cup champions Bandari have opted to take a cautious approach in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup first leg date against Sudanese club Al- Ahli Shandy at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) between August 8 and 10.

The dockers Technical Director Twahir Muhiddin described Sudanese clubs as strong which is reason why they should not be underrated.

“Sudanese teams are gritty and the fact that we are up against an unknown entity makes the match tricky. However, we have an all round good team that is capable of navigating past the preliminary stage,” said Muhiddin.

He reckoned that featuring in the just concluded Cecafa/Kagame Cup in Rwanda as well as the friendly against Cape Town City gave Bandari ample exposure ahead of the CAF assignment.

“You see, we played against experienced teams in Rwanda and this was a great learning experience for the players,” said Muhiddin.

Deputy coach Nassoro Mwakoba said the team had a one week rest after the regional showpiece and is raring to go against the Sudanese.

“The players had a one week lull and they should have a right frame of mind by the time the Sudanese come calling in Nairobi,” said Mwakoba.

Bandari are expected to field experienced players including Wycliff Ochomo, Benjamin Mosha and Congolese Yema Mwana, Brian Otieno and Hassan Abdallah.

The return match of the CAF Cup between Bandari and Al Shandy will be played in Omdurman after a fortnight.
