Makadara court has sentenced a woman who hit the headlines early this month for staging her abduction to eight months imprisonment.

Mary Ambeza was handed the sentence after she pleaded guilty to faking her kidnapping before Principal Magistrate Hellen Onkwany

Ambeza is said to have gone missing on February 7 after she left her home for work before sending a text message to her husband Dominic Oduor Otieno informing him that she had been kidnapped by unknown people.

"Otieno got a message through her wife's phone number at around 9:00 pm reading: 'come and collect your wife's body,'" the prosecution told court.

Following the worrying text, the husband went to the police and filed a missing person report at Dandora Police Station in Kamkunji Sub County in Nairobi.

The report prompted the police to launch an investigation upon which they found that Ambeza had faked her kidnapping.
