Uhuru promotes 22 senior m******y officers

President Uhuru Kenyatta has promoted 22 senior military officers and appointed them to various positions.

President Kenyatta, on the advice of the Defence Council, promoted Major General Peter Mbogo Njiru to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed the Kenya Army Commander.

He replaces Lt. Gen Walter Koipatan, who has retired after holding the office for four years.

Six officers of the rank of Brigadier were promoted to the rank of Major General, while 16 other Colonels were promoted to the rank of Brigadiers.

Brig. David Kimaiyo Tarus, promoted to the next rank, has been named the General Officer Western Command, while Brig. Juma Shee Mwinyikai will be in charge of the Eastern Command.

The new Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of operations and training is Major General Fredrick Leuria, who was also promoted.

Maj. Gen Mungai Nyaga has been appointed Force Commander East African Community Regional Force for DRC.

Brigadier Benard Waliaula of Kenya Air Force has also been promoted to Major General and appointed the Director of Defence National Security Industries.

Kenya Army officers of the rank of Colonel and promoted to the rank of Brigadier include William Kamoro (Commander Second Brigade), Ahmed Mohammed saman (Commander Special Operations), Joel Murungi M’Arimi (Commandant, Recruits Training College), Joseph Mokwena ((Chief of System at Defence headquarters), David Kiprotich Chesire (Commander 8 Brigade), Alice Muringo Mate (Legal Branch at Defence headquarters), Dr. David Kimeli Chesiror chief medical Officer, Isiolo Regional Hospital), and Charles Ndirangu Mathenge (MD, Defence Forces Food Processing Factory).
