A boat full of passengers has capsized at Kona Punda along the Garissa -Madogo road.
In a statement on Sunday, April 28, 2024, the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRC) reported that the boat was heading to Mororo when it capsized.
The boat was helping people cross from areas cut of by floods caused by the ongoing heavy rains.
"A boat carrying a large number of people has capsized at Kona Punda while heading to Mororo. Our teams from Garissa and Tana River County are currently responding to the situation," KRC stated.
22 people have been rescued and taken to Bura Hospital in Tana River County.
Authorities said a search operation for 23 more missing persons is currently ongoing.
