United Democratic Alliance candidate for Kiamokama ward by-election, Moses Nyandusi Nyakeramba has been arrested over alleged voter bribery.

Police in Kiomakama, Kisii County seized the aspiring MCA at his home on Thursday morning, March 4, even before he had cast his vote.

He was arrested alongside popular politician Don Bosco Gichana and taken to Kiamokama Police Station.

“We have been arrested and the officers are yet to give us reasons. They are taking us to an unknown destination,” said Nyakeramba.

Tension is high in the ward but police have deployed heavy security with officers having forced to tear gas residents at Morimani trading centre.

Police claimed that they dispersed the crowd at Morimani over alleged voter bribery.

Kiamokama ward seat fell vacant in 2020 following the death of Kennedy Mainya.

A total of 11 candidates were cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to run for the seat.

They include Malak Mainya of ODM, Vincent Gekone (Independent), Peter Birundu (Narc Kenya), Dominic Nyangaresi (Kenya National Congress), Jared Nyaega (Narc), Nyakundi Nyamori (Maendeleo Chap chap) and Joseph Ouko of Republican Party.
