Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has called for the release of a 17-year-old boy who sneaked into a ranch in Gilgil, Nakuru county and attempted to fly an aircraft before crashing it.

In a statement shared via his official Twitter account, Sudi asked authorities to release the young man and hand him over to him. He stated that he would take him to an aviation school.

"I kindly beseech the authorities to pardon this young man from Gilgil. Don't arrest him. Please hand him over to me, I will take him to an aviation school," he wrote.

The teenager was arrested on Friday, March 24, 2023, after he damaged the aircraft belonging to a local businessman.

According to a police report, David Chege sneaked into the ranch situated in Ndume area and boarded into the cabin of the spray aircraft registration number 5Y-AZA and make PA25 which had been packed in the yard.

"A stranger male Juvenile who confirmed his name as David Chege aged about 17 years, walked into the compound of the said ranch and boarded into the cabin of the said aircraft parked at the yard and started its engine at the hanger and taxed it but did not take off," the report reads in part.

The minor hit the edge of a live fence and the aircraft engine went off causing damage to the propeller and front curling of the plane.

The boy escaped unhurt but was arrested and placed in custody where he is assisting police with investigations.

Police are yet to establish the motive behind the minor's daring act.

"The suspect escaped unhurt and is in police custody aiding investigations," police added.
