A police officer on Saturday, September 11 assaulted his colleague and seriously injuring him using a cooking stick after they differed over food.

In a police report seen by this reporter and which was filed at Liboi police station in Garissa County, Francis Njoroge attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) assaulted his colleague, Simon Moseti.

The incident happened while the two were taking supper.

“The officer alleges that the suspect assaulted him using a cooking stick and inflicted a serious injury on the left side of his forehead just above the left eye,” the report read in part.

The report further revealed that the officer had blood stains all over his clothes and that he was saying that he had completely lost sight.

Njoroge was rushed to Liboi Sub-County hospital and thereafter referred to The African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) based hospital in Dhobley Somalia in a stable condition.

Cases of police officers assaulting their colleagues have been on the increase in the recent past.

Two weeks ago, eight prison officers led by their inspector, stormed Madogo Police Station in Tana River County and threatened the officers on duty to release their colleague who had been arrested.

The officers cocked their rifles as they demanded that their colleague is released indefinitely and at some point, even tried to grab the station’s Occurrence Book (OB).

Officers at Madogo Police Station said that the prison officer had been arrested while flouting curfew orders.

On May 2, a police officer who is attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Karen police station was nabbed for allegedly assaulting a uniformed colleague.
