Two people accused of stealing motor vehicles in Nairobi have been arrested.

The suspects, Patrick Masinde, 45 and Fernando Mwenda, 42, were arrested following an operation conducted in Njiru, Nairobi county by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on the morning of Friday, December 16, 2022.

During the arrest, officers recovered 10 number plates, 43 driving licenses, tracking gadgets, tens of fake rubber stamps belonging to different motor vehicle-selling dealers, financial institutions and the immigration department among others, identification cards and bank chequebooks.

"The suspects Patrick Masinde, 45 and Fernando Mwenda, 42, were arrested minutes past 1 am by a contingent of officers from Obama police station and 10 number plates, 43 driving licenses, tracking gadgets, identification cards and bank chequebooks among other exhibits. Also recovered were tens of fake rubber stamps belonging to different motor vehicle selling dealers, financial institutions and the immigration department among others," DCI said in a statement.

Detectives believe that the suspects are part of a larger syndicate involved in carjackings and the sale of stolen motor vehicles in the city and across the country.

"A comprehensive search is currently ongoing at the suspect’s hideout in Obama estate aimed at gathering more information on the operations of the suspects," DCI said in a statement.
