Police in Kisumu are investigating circumstances under which a form three student in Maseno school committed suicide by jumping from the second floor of their dormitory.

It is alleged that the incident occurred at around 4:00 am.

Confirming the matter, Kisumu West area OCPD David Nyabuto said the case was reported to them by the institution's Deputy Principal, Mr John Okoth, at around 9:30 am after the student had died while receiving treatment.

"At around 4:00 am, the deputy principal received information from one student that while other students were about to wake up, he heard a loud thud of something falling from the second floor to the ground next to a window where his bed is located," Nyabuto said.

At this point, the student rushed to check and noticed that a fellow student had fallen, and he called other students to help him save the life of their colleague before reporting to the deputy.

The police boss told K24 digital that the deceased was rushed to Agha Khan hospital, where he succumbed to the severe head injuries he sustained while undergoing treatment.

He also revealed that teachers and students embarked on a search for a suicide note. They recovered a note on his desk and have so far opened an inquest file for investigation purposes.

In the suicide note, Nyabuto said the deceased asked his closest friend and a classmate to take possession of his belongings.

The OCPD also called upon students or anyone contemplating suicide to seek guidance and counselling.

"Nowadays, schools and institutions have people given the responsibility to do counselling, and the affected ones should consult with the guidance and counselling personnel to solve their issues," he said.

The deceased's body has been preserved at Agha Khan mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
