A robbery suspect who was on Friday, November 19, arrested for stealing a motorbike has committed suicide.

David Ondari Nyamweya, 24, committed suicide inside Nyatieko Police Station.

He was arrested for stealing a motorbike of registration number KMFV 762G, a Honda valued at Ksh124,000.

In a report seen by K24 Digital, Nyamweya committed suicide using a belt which he was wearing.

“It was reported by Lucy Njeri Kimani and Emmanuel Koech both of this command that while on report office and cell duties respectively made a cell visit and upon checking on one prisoner David Ondari who was in custody they found out that he had committed suicide using a belt,” the report read in part.

It further revealed that his body was hanging from the back of the cell.

The duo then raised alarm and alerted their colleagues who also rushed to the scene.

Later, the scene of crime was visited and documented by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kitutu Central and other top officers drawn from Kisii county.

The suspect had been booked into the Nyatieko Police station cell on Wednesday, November 17 and recorded under OB 11/17/11/2021 at 10:15 pm.

The body of the deceased was removed from the police cells and taken to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
