A man in Ruiru, Kiambu, on Sunday morning lost his life after he was shot dead by thugs while attempting to save his girlfriend.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the deceased identified as Geoffrey Sigei and his girlfriend, Winfred Kinuthia were confronted by the thugs moments after they arrived from an evening date.
"The deceased Geoffrey Sigei and his girlfriend Winfred Kairuthi,34, had arrived at the apartment in two separate vehicles at around 4:30 am, when armed thugs confronted them," DCI wrote.

The apartment guard told detectives that three men forced their way into Winfred's car and began ransacking for valuable items.
Upon realising that his girlfriend had been attacked by thugs, the deceased rushed to her aid with a rungu ready to defend her.
"The armed thugs then opened fire and shot him in the abdomen as they fled the scene, attracting the attention of police officers on patrol nearby. Neighbours who had heard the commotion responded to the incident and rushed Sigei to RFH hospital in Ruiru, where he, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment," DCI added.

Detectives who arrived at the crime scene recovered two spent cartridges of 9mm calibre.
"Investigations into the early morning murder have since been launched and detectives are following crucial leads to unraveling the suspects behind the murder most foul," DCI added.
