A military officer attached to the 81 Tank Battalion has been charged before a Nakuru court with the murder of his wife in Lanet, Bahati, Nakuru County.

Kennedy Otieno Oloo who appeared before Justice Racheal Ng’etich was charged that on June 11, he willingly and unlawfully murdered his wife Leah Otieno at their matrimonial home.

He was arraigned after a mental assessment revealed he was of sound mind and capable of following court proceedings.

The psychiatric report compiled by Nakuru Level Five hospital revealed that the accused understands the charges he is facing.

Oloo denied the charges and through his lawyer Steve Biko, he sought to be released on bond after the prosecution noted that they had no compelling reason for his continuous detention.

In her ruling, Justice Ng’etich released the accused on a Sh 500,000 bond without an alternative cash bail pending the hearing of the matter.

Further, she directed the prosecution to furnish the defense team with witness statements slating pre-trail date to September 14.

Oloo is said to have had obtained an Occurrence Book number at the Lanet Police Station on June 12 claiming that the wife had committed suicide.
