Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has urged employers to be humane and desist from sending their workers home on unpaid leave.
Speaking on Monday, April 13, during the daily briefings on Covid-19 situation in Kenya, CS Kagwe said employers should at least provide their staff with the basic minimum requirements of their households.
Further, Mr. Kagwe said employers who engage workers on a casual basis should send them stipends for survival preferably via M-Pesa.
The CS also urged Kenyans of goodwill to channel their financial and material support through the National Emergency Response Committee and government administrators.
Mr. Kagwe said wellwishers need to avoid issuing material assistance in a manner that brings many people together.
"Stop making any support that brings crowds together because instead of helping, you may be aiding the spread of the disease," said Mr. Kagwe.
