A man who beat up four chiefs at Wangige market in Kabete while resisting arrest after being caught selling illicit brew was on Thursday, January 2020, arraigned and charged in a Kiambu court.

The man accosted the chiefs, namely, Samuel Mburu, Peter Gachuhi, Robert Muiruri and Muigai Robert when they stormed his brewing den on a tip-off from the public on Monday, December 30, 2019.

The chiefs were taken to a hospital in Wangige following the serious beating and reported the assault at the Kibiko Kabete Police Station.

But the suspect’s lawyer told the court to release him on bail since his family depends on his income as a barber for their upkeep.

After pleading not guilty to the charges, the court released him on a cash bail of Sh25,000 and ordered him to report to the investigating officer whenever he is required for questioning.

The accused was also cautioned not to threaten or assault the victims or witnesses in the case.

The case will be mentioned in January 2020.
