Jimmy Kibaki, son of the late third President Mwai Kibaki has brought to the fore his poor Secondary School academic performance that almost led to a fallout between him and his father.

While giving his tribute during the burial ceremony of Kibaki at Othaya in Nyeri County, Jimmy revealed that he, at some point, performed dismally, especially in his Form One and Two studies, a poor performance that elicited fury from Kibaki who frequently wanted him to repeat his class.

Jimmy who studied at the magnificent St Marys School revealed that he was not the best academic performer among his siblings; Judy, Tony and David Kibaki.

"My experiences with Kibaki were that of a son and a father. But my life has been that of cat and mouse. Dad wanted me to be excellent but I fell short of that," Jimmy said.

"My grades in Form One and Two were not a representation of Kibaki, the President. I remember that one day in Form Two, I was forced to give my report as the last person in the family.

"He (Kibaki) insisted that I should repeat but I got reluctant and to avoid repetition, I worked hard until I improved my grades which he urged me to retain," Jimmy added.

Jimmy at the same time eulogized his father as a strict disciplinarian who worked hard to instil values in his children.

Kibaki who was born in 1931 and died on April 21 will be remembered for initiating economic development in various sectors including infrastructural development, education, and health care among others.
