Thousands of mourners gathered at Othaya Approved School grounds in Nyeri county for the burial ceremony of the former Head of State Mwai Kibaki where Archbishop Anthony Muheria revealed some of Kibaki's admirable attributes.
In a ceremony that kicked off in the morning with a requiem mass, Muheria described Kibaki as a modest and easy man who did not chat on phone while in church.
The Archbishop was cautioning Kenyans against turning places of worship into rowdy gatherings with distracted minds.
"Today's send-off should be free from any political speeches to a great man who did not feel ashamed of faith and even when he visited places of worship he never demanded even to greet the crowd, "Archbishop Muheria stated.
“Many leaders come to our churches to converse with other people on the phone. We Kenyans want to turn our places of worship into rowdy gatherings, and sometimes political gatherings. Return to God what is God’s and give him space. Let us learn from Kibaki,” the Archbishop appealed.
Archbishop Muheria on Kibaki's wish
He said according to his family, like most people, Kibaki oversaw some of the plans for his own funeral so the ceremony would reflect his druthers.
"Let's give him the respect and honour he deserves," he noted.
