The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of the Garissa-Madogo road due to floods occasioned by the ongoing rains.
In a statement, the authority said the flood waters which have topped sections of the road in the Mororo and Kona Punda areas make the road unsafe for road users.
KeNHA subsequently stated that the road section will remain closed to all road users until the water levels experienced at Tana River bridge, Mororo and Kona Punda areas subside to safe levels and restoration works on damaged sections are completed.

"Following the ongoing heavy rains, KeNHA wishes to notify the general public that flooding is being experienced at Tana River Bridge, Mororo and Kona Punda areas. The flood waters have overtopped sections of the A3 road at Mororo and Kona Punda area.
"Based on assessment by our Engineers, the road section at the moment is not safe for use by motorists and pedestrians. Consequently, KeNHA wishes to inform the public that the road section between Garissa and Madogo is CLOSED to all road users until the water levels subside to safe levels and restoration works on damaged sections are completed. KeNHA shall continue to monitor the situation," KeNHA said.

The latest came hours after the authority closed the Mugeka-Murang'a Road section from Gathaji Junction to Posta in Murang'a Town.
The road was closed after the collapse of the road embankment across five sections causing damage to the road infrastructure and posing dangers to motorists and pedestrians.
Subsequently, the road authority advised motorists to use alternative roads as mentioned below.
- Mugeka - Kaweru Junction - Gakonya - Murang’a route for traffic from Mugeka to Murang'a.
- Murang'a - Kangema - Kiriani Route for traffic from Murang'a to Kiriaini.
- Murang'a - Gatiba Junction - Gitugi - Kiriaini route for traffic from Murang'a to Kiriaini.
