Nakuru Town East David Gilaria was on Monday arrested after an altercation with Nakuru County Police Commander Tito Kilonzi.

His Nakuru Town West counterpart Samwel Arama said that the legislator was in a meeting with the police boss and acting Nakuru town manager Njoroge Gichuhi over the matatu terminus issue.

"Gikaria became very angered at the police alleging that they have been compromised by the county to frustrate the matatu operators," Arama said.

The MP was taken to Nakuru Central Police Station after the altercation.

According to Arama, the Nakuru Town East MP refused to heed plea by Kilonzi to call off the demonstrations, saying the protests would go on as planned.

Meanwhile, Arama hit out at the county government for allegedly failing to provide a better working environment at their newly established matatu termini.

Earlier, police officers engaged protesting matatu crews in running battles at the Nakuru town as the operators sought to access their old termini.

For several weeks, there has been simmering tension between the operators and the county government after they were ordered out of the Nakuru town central business district.
