The deputy principal of Ndutumi Boarding Secondary School in Kahuro, Murang’a County and a teacher working at the institution, were on Wednesday, October 23, charged with sexual harassment and defilement respectively.

The Murang’a Law Courts was told that the assistant head teacher, Samuel Ndung’u Ikonya, seduced the minor, a Form One student, on October 19 in his office. That act, the court was told, amounts to sexual harassment, given he “wanted to have sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old”.

The following day, October 20, the girl looked for her class teacher, Kevin Kung’u Ngunjiri, in one of the Science laboratories so that she could report what the deputy principal had subjected her to, the court was told.

Ngunjiri allegedly touched the girl’s private parts inappropriately and, thereafter, defiled her, the court heard.

Both suspects, who were arrested on Monday, October 21, denied the respective charges and asked the court to free them on cash bail or bond terms.

The prosecution, however, opposed the release of the two, saying they would interfere with evidence.

Chief Magistrate Margaret Wachira requested the case be transferred to another court in Murang’a, and the bail application be heard on October 28.

Wachira set November 21 as the hearing date.
