Police in Kirinyaga County are pursuing an ex-convict suspected of killing his mother in cold blood on Sunday, June 12, 2022.

The assailant was among 3,908 petty offenders pardoned by President Uhuru Kenyatta during this year's Madaraka Day celebrations.

In an incident that has left Njoga residents in shock, the man hacked Grace Muthoni Ndambiri to death in the bathroom before going into hiding.

Neighbours responding to the elderly woman's distress calls found her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood and immediately informed the police.

Mwea East Sub-county police boss David Kitavi confirmed the incident saying the suspect was embroiled in a land dispute with the mother.

"The woman was fatally attacked as she had deep cuts in the head," Kitavi said.

"The man who was released from jail after being pardoned by the President had been demanding a share of the family land from his mother and the duo used to quarrel."

Police suspect the man eliminated the old woman after she refused to meet his demands.

The suspect was living with the widow who lost her husband some years back.

"All the other children are employed and the woman was living in the same homestead with her ex-convict son who was known to be having bad behaviour," the police boss added.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kibugi Funeral Home as police continue with investigations into the heinous act.
