A middle-aged man from Rurare village in Kanduyi, Bungoma County, on Monday, stabbed his girlfriend to death before killing himself after she allegedly conned Ksh50, 000.

The suspect, Evans Wanjala, 34, reportedly stormed Juliet Makokha's home and stabbed her several times in the stomach for allegedly pocketing his money yet she is in a relationship with a another man.

“My brother’s wife left him because of being involved in an affair with Juliet but along the way the deceased fell out with her after she conned him over Sh50, 000," Wanjala's brother Fidelis Mechumo said as reported by a local publication.

Following the incident, Makokha,29, was rushed to Bungoma County Referral Hospital where she was admitted in critical condition but she later passed on from the severe injuries.

On realising what he had done, Wanjala is said to have run away and hanged himself using a manila rope behind his house.

The police processed the area before taking Wanjala's body to Bungoma County's Hospital.

Mechumo revealed that his brother and Makokha have been in a romantic relationship for the last nine months and of late, he had started showing signs of depression.

Mechumo said that though Mechumo was depressed, he refused to talk about it.

“It’s unfortunate that he has died by suicide. It is my humble appeal that those in love should seek proper guidance on the way forward if they disagree with their partners,” he said as reported by the local publication.

Bungoma South Police Commander Benjamin Kimwele who confirmed the incident urged lovers to always seek guidance and counselling from professionals if they have any issues.
