Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Public Safety Edward Mbugua has undertaken a mass reshuffle of lower cadre and mid-level officers to bolster the country’s national security.

They include 97 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and 214 Inspectors of Police (IP) who have been either confirmed or promoted to new ranks.  All those affected are in operational beats and station command level.

Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) Police Station Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Paul Rioba has been promoted and posted to Marsabit Central Police Station as the Deputy Sub -County Police Commander (D/Scpc).

Police integration

Outgoing Kenya Railways Police Officer Commanding Station Samson Lweri has been promoted as the Mombasa D/SCPC attached to the Standard Gauge Railway.  Mohamed Diriye has been moved to Dagoretti as the Deputy Sub County police boss.

“The Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service has approved the deployment of the following officers with immediate effect,” a circular from Vigilance House, Police Headquarters read in part.

Among the units affected include the Presidential Escort Unit), General Service Unit (GSU), Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU), Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and the Traffic Department.

This comes in the wake of administrative hiccups in the integration of the Administration Police Services officers into KPS.

Last week, Mbugua expressed concerns over rampant cases of officers from APS who were recently amalgamated into KPS remaining unassigned duties.

Early this year, Mbugua appointed 322 Sub County Police Commanders (Scpc) as part of the implementation of the new police command structure that abolished the position of Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD).
