Police in Eldoret have arrested seven suspects believed to be part of a car theft syndicate, recovering 8 vehicles in the operation.

Confirming the incident, Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Johnstone Ipara said two of the recovered cars were stolen during Churchill Show recording at Eldoret Sports Club, two weeks ago.

The seven, who are accused of being part of a ring that masterminded vehicle theft in Kericho, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nakuru and Bomet counties, have been detained at Eldoret Cetral Police Station.

Police Boss Ipara said that his team had been trailing the suspects for a while, liking them to te increased cases of car theft in the region.

“We have been trailing this syndicate for quite some time before we eventually busted them in the confines of their hidings. Cases of car theft have been on rise within town and even in the neighboring counties which prompted our offices to expedite investigation and arrest culprits,” Ipara stated.

Police also confiscated parts of dismantled vehicles from the compound belonging to one of the suspects in Kericho.

Most of the recovered vehicles were fitted with fake number plates matching other vehicles in places like Meru and Mombasa.

One victim, Josephat Nyamu, positively identified the remains of his dismantled vehicle. Nyamu said  his car was stolen on September 6th, along Mandago Street next to Zion Mall in Eldoret.

Ipara has appealed to members of the public who have lost their vehicles to report to the Central Police station and find out if they could among those recovered.
