Two children aged 3 and 4 years from Kipsoen village in Bomet East were burnt to death in their house after fire broke out while their mother was away.

The children had been left alone in the morning by their mother who police said had gone to the nearby town to buy a flask for use in her tea hawking business.

On returning from the market, the woman said she found her house on fire and raised the alarm.

Bomet East Police boss James Kilonzo said they suspected that the fire started in the bedroom and spread to the other parts of the house.

"Though the fire was contained, the lives of the young children were not saved because the fire had already spread and suffocated them," Kilonzo said.

Mr Kilonzo said police have launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire.

The children’s bodies were taken to Longisa Mortuary.
