Popular activist Boniface Mwangi has reacted to the renaming of Mbagathi Way to Raila Odinga Way.

Mwangi, who was critical to the naming of a road after COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, has welcomed the move to honour the former prime minister.

According to the activist, the ODM leader deserves even a greater honour for his fight for democracy. He opines that the opposition chief even deserves an airport to be named after him.

Mwangi stated that Raila served years in jail fighting for democracy. He however stated that Raila has since abandoned his progressive idealism, and has back-slid from his earlier beliefs.

"Raila Odinga spent 10 years in jail fighting for democracy. The younger Raila was a progressive idealist and a fighter for a better Kenya. For his service to this nation, he deserves a road, even an airport named after him. The older Raila is traitor to his younger self," he tweeted.

Mwangi's reaction comes after the Nairobi county government, in conjuction with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services, renamed Mbagathi way, Raila Odinga Way.

The road signage bearing the name of the ODM leader Raila Odinga is believed to have been erected on the night of Thursday November 4.

The move comes after the Nairobi county assembly passed a motion, sponsored by Minority whip Peter Imwatok, approving the renaming of Mbagathi Way to Raila Odinga Way.
