Kindiki: Banditry in the Northern Rift Valley has been contained by 70 percent

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki now claims that incidents of banditry in the Northern Rift Valley have been contained by 70 percent.

In a statement, the CS who acknowledged that the government was committed to eradicating the menace and destroying its political, cultural and commercial networks said that the war against banditry would be intensified in 2024.

While acknowledging the ministry's efforts in taming the vice, Kindiki highlighted that the suppression of bandits in the region would spur economic growth in the area by providing a conducive environment for social amenities, economic infrastructure and durable peace-building programs to thrive.

"The incidents of banditry and its debilitating effects on the people of the Northern Rift Valley Region have been contained 70%. Building on the lessons so far, the government aims at eradicating the menace of banditry and destroying its political, cultural and commercial networks. 2024 is a decisive year.

"The suppression of bandit terror will give way to opening up of the region through social amenities, economic infrastructure and durable peacebuilding programs spearheaded by the Government but involving non-governmental stakeholders," the CS said.

The CS was speaking during an event in Baringo where he inspected the progress on the establishment of new security facilities and delivered holiday gifts to the Baringo Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) camps in Ngaratuko, Kagir, Loruk Police Station, Yatya Police Post and local National Police Reservists (NPRs) Regional.

"Spent Boxing Day inspecting progress on the establishment of new security facilities and shared a Boxing Day meal with officers serving in the frontline at Karanga Joto, at the border of Baringo North and Tiaty Sub-Counties in Baringo County. Distributed Christmas season celebrations food items for Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), Rapid Deployment Unit(RDU) camps in Ngaratuko, Kagir, and Loruk and for Loruk Police Station, Yatya Police Post and local National Police Reservists (NPRs) Regional, County and Sub-County heads of security agencies and Unit Field Commanders were present," the CS added.
