‘Laughing at my pain’ – Lupita Nyong’o reveals that she is still grieving after breakup

Well, it seems like award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o is having a tougher time moving on from her breakup with ex-boyfriend Selema Masekela.

Lupita took to her Insta stories to update her fans on how she is coping with the heartache noting that she was in the 'Laughing at your pain' stage of grief.

"Grief stage: laughing at my pain," the 40-year-old shared.

The '12 Years a Slave' actress playfully revealed that the next person who dares break her heart will have their address put on the dark web.

"Next person to break my heart is getting their address put on the dark web," she jested

Lupita announces breakup with boyfriend Masekela

The American-based actress announced that she and her 52-year-old boyfriend had split up on October 20.

In a statement, Lupita revealed that their relationship was embroiled in a web of deception that she could not stand.

"I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, “Whatever, my life is better this way.” But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love," she shared.

"I hope it’s true… I share this to keep it 100%, and I hope that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it," she expressed.

The 'Wakanda' actress also deleted all posts about Masekela from her social media accounts.

"Let’s face our pain so we don’t spread it," Lupita added.

Lupia and Masekela went public with their relationship in 2021.

Lupita Nyong'o and American singer Janelle Monáe formed a friendship at the Met Gala in 2014. At that time, Nyong'o was still new to the entertainment industry, and had just secured an Oscar Award for her role in '12 Years a Slave.'

“This world is still extremely new to me and unbelievable,” Lupita said in an interview.

“Janelle came up to me and just gave me the realest hug,” she shared.

“I think we may have swayed to the music. She was just like, ‘I’m so proud of you, and just thank you for being you.’”

“She has a magnetism that they were obviously picking up on,” Lupita added.

“She is that enigmatic. I was not surprised. And I don’t mind being associated with her in any capacity,” she expressed.

In a past interview, Monáe publicly discussed her identification as pansexual. Subsequently, she disclosed that she identifies as nonbinary and prefers the use of both she/her and they/them pronouns.
