Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o has announced that she has broken up with her American boyfriend Selema Masekela.
In a statement on Thursday night, Lupita said the embers of their love were extinguished by deception.
"I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, “Whatever, my life is better this way.” But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love," she stated.

Lupita has been dating the 52-year-old TV host and sports commentator since 2022. Masekela also runs a surf apparel company, Mami Wata, which was launched in April 2022 in Venice, California.
"I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass. The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness," Lupita stated.
"I hope it’s true… I share this to keep it 100%, and hoping that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it," she added.
Lupita has also deleted all posts about Masekela from her social media accounts.
On the other hand, Maseleka has yet to speak about the breakup.
"Let’s face our pain so we don’t spread it," Lupita added.

Lupita's announcement comes a day after she shared cosy photos with Dawson’s Creek actor Joshua Jackson, 45, after attending the Janelle Monae concert. Jackson's wife, Jodie Turner-Smith, recently filed for divorce.
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever celebrated Masekela's birthday on Instagram in August calling him a "Sunshine Human".
