Woman identified as Jackline Mwende has opened up on a fateful day her ex-husband Stephen Ngila Nthenge chopped off her hands in July 2016.

Speaking to a local radio station on Wednesday, May 19, Mwende narrated the occurrence of events on the day which she recalls as if it were yesterday.

Mwende who hails from Mwala, Machakos County was married through a church wedding to her ex-husband who was a church leader and a very calm person.

Their marriage was blissful until the couple realized they could not bear children and that was the beginning of their misery.

Ngila slowly started becoming alcoholic while Mwende took the blame for the lack of children but she pointed out that God is the giver of children.

The sad incident that left her for dead was on a normal day at 7 pm when Ngila came back home but instead started hacking Mwende soon as he walked through the door.

This was however a very shocking thing as Ngila had not shown any signs of anger or aggressiveness before the incident.

Ngila continued to hack the lady even after she begged him to stop and he went further to chop off her hands. Mwende watched as dogs ran with the hands soon as they fell on the ground.

" That day he came home at 7 pm, he called out for me to open the door for him. Soon as he walked in he began hacking at me immediately. I had a very fierce dog and the minute my hand fell on the floor, the dog ran away with it," Mwende said.

" I really led a loud scream, I looked at him and asked him.. Ngila unataka kuniua peke yako hivi unimalize?, he just continued to hack at me something that was very shocking as he had not shown any signs of aggression, it just happened one day," she added.

Mwende who confirmed that she had been faithful in her marriage, said the incident left her parents sickly of the trauma she has been dealing with.

"This incident left my parents sick and now deal with high pressure due to the trauma I went through. It is not easy to raise my child without hands so it is my parents who have been taking care of us," Mwende noted.

Ngila who was later arraigned in court was charged with attempted murder and jailed for 30 years.

Machakos Senior Resident Magistrate Brenda Bartoo noted that the prosecution proved beyond any reasonable doubt that Ngila had committed the heinous crime.

Speaking after the ruling was delivered, Mwende said that justice “has finally been served”.
