The towing away of a commercial truck that was involved in a road accident near the Mai Mahiu Catholic Church on the Limuru-Mai Mahiu highway led to heavy traffic congestion on the busy road on Thursday, December 12.
A senior police officer in Naivasha told K24 Digital that the truck, which was transporting unspecified goods to Kampala, overturned on the road last Monday following a self-involved accident. As a result, the heavy goods vehicle obstructed a part of the highway.
And, on Thursday, December 12, police embarked on removing the vehicle from the road, causing a traffic snarl-up on the highway. It remains unclear why it took authorities more than three days to clear the road.
Motorists, who were travelling to upcountry from Nairobi on Thursday morning, spent at least two hours stuck in their vehicles, with some, who attempted to overlap, worsening the already-bad situation at the time.
Traffic flow from Mai Mahiu towards Limuru wasn’t significantly affected following the incident.
"Vehicles are now moving, though the flow is still gradual," K24 Television correspondent in Naivasha reported at 1:17pm Thursday.
