US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman has maintained that her country respects Kenya's stance on Lesbian Gay Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ).

Speaking in Kajiado county on Friday, March 3, 2023, Whitman clarified that the Ksh16 billion handed to Kenya for food and drought relief is not linked to the country's position on gay rights.

She asserted that the working relationship between Kenya and the US remains strong regardless of their stand regarding LGBTQ rights.

"We respect every country's point of view on what position on what to take on LGBTQ rights and we will respect that of course our democratic values and the way we feel is different and that's okay, countries have differences, we have a very strong working relationship," Whitman stated.

"The Kenyan government knows the US perspective but we also respect their views on LGBTQ rights. There is absolutely no linkage between food and drought relief and Kenya's stance on LGBTQ," she added.

Whitman's remarks come barely a day after top leaders affirmed that homosexuality has no place in Kenyan society.

Led by President William Ruto and his Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the leaders have maintained that despite the Supreme Court allowing the gay community to formally register their own association, gayism is not acceptable in the country.

“I cannot allow our women to get competition from men who chase after men. That will not happen under my watch,” the President stated.

Other leaders such as Azimio supremo Raila Odinga also dismissed the debate stating that it is not acceptable.

Russian Embassy in Kenya also joined the top leaders in dismissing the judgement made by the Supreme Court stating that the Western nations were pushing the gay agenda.

They warned that the 'the West will come for more' and subsequently implored Kenyan leaders to take charge in protecting the country's traditional values or risk losing humanity.

"That is only the beginning, the West will come for more. Traditional values shall be protected, otherwise, humanity is doomed," Russia said in a tweet on Tuesday.

Adding: "Not parent 1 and parent 2, but family! Not rules, but law!"
