The principal of Turkana University College, Thomas Akuja, has been sent on compulsory leave to pave way for investigations into his alleged corrupt dealings.

The university council on Thursday made the announcement, saying Akuja had been linked to corruption and abuse of office allegations.

"The Council of Turkana University College, led by Chairperson Mussolin Kithome, has resolved to send the current principal of Turkana University College, Thomas Akuja, on compulsory leave with immediate effect, to pave way for investigations by the relevant government agencies on allegations of possible corruption and abuse of office at Turkana University College,” said the council’s statement seen by K24 Digital.

Prof. Tom Nyamache has been appointed the acting principal of the institution beginning January 30 to February 7.

Dr Fredrick Nyongesa, who holds the formal capacity as the acting principal, is outside the country, hence Nyamache’s temporary occupation of the seat.

Turkana University College is a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

It was inaugurated as a constituent college on January 27, 2017.
