Trafficker nabbed on Nairobi-bound bus with cocainè worth Ksh1.8M

Police on Friday morning April 26, 2024, apprehended a male passenger travelling on a bus from Moyale to Nairobi who was found in possession of cocaine.

According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the man, identified as Charles Obaga Kavehere, had concealed 417 grams of cocaine under the inner soles of his shoes.

Trafficker ejected

"A drug trafficker was ejected from a Nairobi-bound bus from Moyale this morning, and 417 grams of cocaine were discovered hidden under the inner soles of his rubber shoes," the DCI announced.

The DCI explained that anti-narcotics detectives, acting on intelligence information, intercepted the bus at the Blue Post section in Thika, resulting in Kavehere's arrest.

"Acting on intelligence information, anti-narcotics detectives augmented by the Operations Support Unit intercepted the bus belonging to Score Investment Ltd at Blue Post section of Thika, conducting a search that saw 24-year-old Charles Obaga Kavehere arrested," the DCI added.

Following the initial arrest, Kavehere was taken to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for further screening.

The DCI reported that during this examination, detectives found additional cocaine inside Kavehere's body, indicating he had ingested the drugs with plans to ingest them upon reaching his final destination.

"The suspect was taken to JKIA for further screening within his person, where detectives established that, besides the 417 grams estimated at KSh 1.8 million, he had swallowed more drugs intended to be egested at his destination," the DCI pointed out.

Drug trafficker case

Kavehere is currently in the custody of JKIA-ANU officers, awaiting the egestion of the swallowed sachets and further legal proceedings.

This arrest came just days after Mombasa anti-narcotics detectives apprehended a drug trafficker in the Kiembeni, Bombo area of Kisauni.

In that early morning operation, which was informed by a tip-off from a concerned member of the public, authorities seized several sachets of suspected heroin and cannabis sativa from the suspect's house and personal car.

The suspect, Zuher Ali Mohamed, was taken into custody, and police also confiscated his vehicle, which is believed to be a proceed of crime.

Additionally, officers found Ksh26,250 in cash and USD 200, along with a weighing machine, packaging envelopes, and three mobile phones that are believed to contain data on his accomplices.
