5 suspects charged for assaulting police officers during arrest

Five people are expected to be arraigned in court today for contravening the Liquor Licenses Act and harming police officers who made their arrest.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, while on patrol along Kang’ethe Road near Toi market, police officers came across the wines and spirit shop which was operating without a liquor license and they proceeded to arrest the seller.

During the apprehension process, two male adults who were consuming alcohol and shisha at the joint hurled insults at the police officers and threatened to set their motor vehicle on fire.

A scuffle ensued and Inspector Fred Nyamoko and Constable Joseph Kisang were injured on the elbows and suffered multiple soft tissue injuries.

“A scuffle ensued where Inspector Fred Nyamoko and Constable Joseph Kisang sustained injuries to both elbows and upper limbs and also suffered multiple soft tissues injuries,” a police report seen by K24 Digital read in part.

Five people were arrested during the incident and placed in police custody awaiting to be arraigned in court.

Police officers rushed to hospital

The police officers were rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital where they were treated and discharged in fair condition.

This comes hours after police officers in Kaimosi, Nandi County were accosted by members of the public while they had gone to make an arrest over an assault case.

Constable Kelvin Mugiza and Corporal Wyckline Wanjala were rescued with deep cuts on the head, left knee, and toe.

The officers expended 30 rounds of ammunition from their riffles in an attempt to save themselves.

They were rushed to Kapsabet Referral Hospital where they were treated and discharged and in fair condition.

No arrest was made and investigations have been launched.
