Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja now wants Chairman of Commission for University Education (CUE) Prof Chacha Nyaigoti-Chacha jailed for six months over alleged disobedience of a court order that suspended revocation of his degree certificate.

In the contempt of court application, Sakaja, who is vying for Nairobi Governorship says the CUE chairman has disregarded court orders for maintenance of status quo in relation to the degree certificate saga.

Through lawyer Elias Mutuma, Sakaja alleges that on June 20, 2022, Prof Chacha issued a press statement commenting on the ongoing court case that has challenged the decision of CUE.

In the said statement, Prof Chacha said that " the revocation of his purported degree still stands.”

But Sakaja says that was a disregard and disobedience of the court orders issued on June 15, 2022, by Justice Jairus Ngaah who ordered that" status quo ante be maintained."

"We urge this court to be pleased to order the immediate arrest of Prof.Chacha Nyaigoti-Chacha. He should be presented in court and adjudged guilty for contempt of court, for breach of orders of the Honorable Court issued on June 15, 2022," lawyer Mutuma says.

He further wants Prof. Chacha imprisoned for a period of six months at Kamiti Maximum Prison.

In his affidavit, Sakaja says that apart from the court ordering the status quo to be maintained, the judge also allowed him to commence legal proceedings in the nature of judicial review seeking to quash the decision of CUE.
