Citizens from Angola will soon be able to travel to Kenya visa-free after President William Ruto on Saturday announced that Kenya was abolishing visa requirements for Angolans.

Speaking after a meeting with his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço on Saturday, October 21, 2023, President Ruto termed the move as a positive step that will enhance trade between the two countries.

This, the president said will bolster economic prosperity between the two countries.

"We have agreed and I have undertaken to my brother-President Lourenço- that our brothers and sisters in Angola with their passports will now need no visa to come to Kenya. I am very happy that the president has agreed that Angola will equally consider the same when they go back home," he stated.

"We believe there is tremendous potential and scope for the numbers to go up into billions and we have undertaken we will facilitate these exercises by making sure that they are not bilateral agreements but improve connections to facilitate greater integration," Ruto added.

The country's first-in-command also assured Kenyans that his administration will continue to push for visa-free travel for Kenyans to escalate the rising trade numbers. Ruto also vowed to expedite the resumption of direct flights to Angola.

'In particular, we will push for a visa-free regime and revisit the resumption of direct flights between Nairobi and Luanda so that we can escalate our rising trade numbers," Ruto stated.

The latest development makes Angola the newest addition to the list of other countries in which President Ruto has abolished visa requirements.

Ruto had earlier reiterated that the move would help boost the economic foundations of countries in Africa.
