Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has told off individuals claiming that circumcision is important in leadership.
Speaking during an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) consultative meeting with local leaders in Teso North, the ODM leader asserted that the culture is only a Bantu thing that was introduced through religion.
The former prime minister also claimed that those who find seriousness in the cultures are daft stressing that the culture is a trivial matter that was enforced by religion.
He also pointed out that the culture was only enforced by Bantus in Kenya as Bantus in DRC, Cameroon and South Africa do not practice the culture.
"…..Shida ikawa kubwa ju ya mambo ya tohara, ati mtu mwengine anasema wewe bado ni mtoto mdogo kwa sababu hujatahiriwa. Si hio ni upumbavu na ujinga. Nliwaambia hawa ukivuka mpaka Uganda utagundua kuna makabila mbili pekee ambazo zilikua zinatahiri.
"Hii mambo ya tohara ni kitu ya dini tu, ilikuja na dini ikapitia hapa bantu. Mambo ya tohara ni kidogo sana, mtu ambaye anachukua mambo ya tohara kama kitu kubwa sana ni mpumbavu sana," Raila said.
The opposition chief additionally told off individuals practising Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) saying the move was primitive and stupid.
He further reiterated that individuals who use the circumcision culture to gauge a person's capabilities to lead are fools who should be cursed.
"Mambo ya kutahiri wanawake alafu anafikiri amefanya kazi muhimu ni mjinga. Ati Mteso haezi ongoza kwa sababu bado hajatahiri, mtu kama huyu anafaa alaaniwe kwa sababu hio ni shetani," Raila said.
