Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, visited the State House to attend a state banquet for visiting royals.

Raila, alongside other leaders, is among the guests who have joined King Charles III and Queen Camilla for dinner at State House organized by President William Ruto.

In a statement, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party confirmed that the opposition leader was among the dignitaries invited to the dinner.

"Party Leader Raila Odinga is among the dignitaries invited for the State Banquet in honour of the visiting King Charles (III) and Queen Camilla at State House Nairobi," ODM stated.

Speaking during the event, Ruto commended the royals for acknowledging the dark past between Kenya and the United Kingdom.

"We also note with appreciation your expression of willingness to acknowledge the painful aspects of our shared history, your exemplary courage and readiness to shed light on uncomfortable truths that reside in the darker regions of our shared experience are also very commendable," Ruto stated.

This is the first time Ruto and Raila are appearing in the same public forum since the disputed 2022 General Elections, which has pitted the two leaders as sworn enemies.

Their public appearance could suggest a conciliatory mood in the country, even as the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) engages stakeholders.
