A police officer has been arrested by his colleagues for sodomizing a student in Langas, Uasin Gishu County.

It all started when the officer identified as John Ouko on Thursday morning nabbed Kevin, 20, a student at Eldoret National Polytechnic for not wearing a facemask.

The officer then handcuffed him and instead of taking him to the police cells diverted him to his room within Langas Police lines.

“He sodomized him and thereafter gave him ksh200 telling him not to disclose the matter to anyone,” a report seen by this reporter read in part.

However, the student went straight to the police station and launched a report over the incident which shocked the officers.

They then swiftly rushed to the house of the suspect and arrested him as he was on his way out.

Kevin then was escorted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) where he is undergoing medical examination.

Cases of police officers breaking the law have been on the rise in the recent past.

The incidents range from murder, suicide and sexual abuse.

Confirming the incident, Uasin Gishu County police commander Ayub Ali Gitonga said the officer has already been arrested.

Mr Gitonga termed the incident as a shameful incident as he appealed to the victim and his family to be patient as the investigation goes on.

He said that plans have been put in place to ensure that justice prevails regardless of the status of the suspect.
