Winnie Jelimo, 15, the bright girl with albinism who was reportedly turned down by several secondary schools due to her skin condition has finally secured help after the matter was exposed by K24 Digital.

Embattled nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura, on Thursday, announced that he had secured admission slots from two secondary schools for the girl who scored 347 marks in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination. In his statement, the Mwaura also revealed that he had made arrangements with Kenya Education Fund to clear the girl's four-year fees.

Jelimo now has the chance to choose between Kapkenda Girls High School and Thika High School.

“The Albinism Society of Kenya shall support her personal emoluments including provision of sunscreen lotions and protective clothing. We thank all those who reached out or tagged us to intervene,” he said.

In the earlier expose by K24 Digital, his father Samwell Kipruto said that he was worried that his daughter could not join High School.

“We have tried to secure an admission slot for her in a number of secondary schools in vain. Many have said they cannot admit her due to her condition. I think albinism should not be the reason to deny her right to education,” he said from their Koisolik village in Nandi County.

Jelimo was a student at Ilula Primary school in Eldoret and her dream school was to join Chepterit Secondary School in Nandi County and later pursue her dreams of becoming a doctor.

“Though I have not sought admission in Chepterit High School, it had been my dream school,” Jelimo said when asked where she would love to undertake her secondary studies.
