Police in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for a cuffed remandee who escaped from a city hospital bed on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Authorities say that the suspect who was being held at the Industrial area remand cell had been rushed to the hospital by three prison warders after he suffered from cholera.

The warders realised he had gone missing at 9:00 pm and alerted health providers who conducted a search within the facility.

Police have since called on members of the public to help with the search for the suspect who was facing theft charges. They are yet to establish how he uncuff himself and escaped from the facility leaving the cuffs on the hospital bed.

Search for killer gardener

Elsewhere in Gigiri, Nairobi county, police are searching for a gardener who killed his boss under unclear circumstances before fleeing to an unknown destination.

The deceased identified as Gerson Mwita, aged 81. was found lying in his garden with a deep cut on the back of his head. He also had other injuries on his face and bruises on his back.

“Daniel Mwiti, the son of the deceased, reported that the gardener had killed his father where a duty officer and his team rushed to the scene and found the body of Dr Gerson Mwiti a Meru aged 81 years a consultant at Leadership Institute of Kenya and the owner of the said Home lying at his garden with a deep cut on the head, the body had additional injuries at the face and bruises at the back,” the police report seen by K24 Digital read in part.

Officers from the Director of Criminal Investigations based at Gigiri have launched investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was moved to Lee Funeral Home pending an autopsy.
