2 thugs shot dead by police in Kayole

Two suspected robbers were gunned down during a raid conducted by police in Kayole, Nairobi county.

Confirming the incident Kayole OCPD Paul Wambugu, who noted that they acted on a tip-off from members of the public said that the two were part of a gang of four terrorizing residents in the area. The other two suspects managed to escape with weapons.

Prior to the incident, police noted that they had received distress calls from residents who claimed that the thugs were robbing residents as they headed to work in the morning.

Consequently, the officers launched a raid in an attempt to nab the suspects. Police say they asked the suspects to surrender, however, they defied orders forcing the officers to open fire.

The bodies were moved to a nearby morgue.

Separate incident

In a separate incident, two gunmen were fatally shot by police after they shot and injured a 33-year-old man in Kabarage area of Dandora, Nairobi, on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Authorities said that the thugs were terrorising members of the public when they attacked the man leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

The officers responded to distress calls from members of the public and immediately launched a manhunt for the suspects.

Working on a tip-off from area residents, the police cornered the duo and challenged them to surrender.

The gunmen, police said, opened fire on the officers forcing the men in uniform to respond, killing the two on the spot.

"Police got information from members of the public that there was a group of two armed men riding on motorcycle registration number KMGH 047W make, black boxer terrorizing the public in the Kibarage area and had shot a 33-year-old Kikuyu male and had been rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital," the police report stated.

Police recovered the aforementioned motorcycle, homemade pistols, empty cartridges and three rounds of ammunition from one of the suspect's pockets.

“The police recovered the motorcycle; KMGH 047W, Two home-made pistols capable of firing, two empty cartridges one logged in the firearms and another recovered at the Crime scene and three rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the pocket of one of the suspects," police added.

Notorious thug

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that one of the suspects is a notorious jailbird identified as Yutman Mgaza.

According to the police, Yutman had been released from jail last month.

The bodies of the deceased persons were moved to the City morgue awaiting identification by their kin.
